What The Heck Is An Ear Bar?
“Mum, can I have an ear bar?”
So this is the question I was faced with the other day.
I had no idea what an “Ear Bar” was, so who did I ask?….Google of course.
Apparently this…is an “Ear Bar”……

Ahhhh right…. so now my newly informed brain can give the unequivocal answer of……no…….
The looks on the faces of my two older girls were pure shock. I think they were positive I was going to say yes…aahhh no….. think again…
I do realise that in a year and a half Miss M will be over 18 and technically she can do what ever she wants…and probably will, but until then……her decisions are MY decisions….
Miss E has been asking to get her ears pierced again.
This I will say yes to. I have mine done twice and so does Miss M. So I really can’t refuse her there.
But the ear bar? Yep, that is a big fat no!
Why anyone would want to pierce that part of the ear is baffling. That looks absolutely, monumentally painful!
Another thing to consider is appearances. Miss E is hoping to find a part time job, Miss M already has one that is very customer focused.
Is a bar through the ear, going to create a bad impression? I know we live in a progressive society these days, but are we this progressive?
Both girls play netball. So with the new season just around the corner, now isn’t a good time to be putting any new decorations on their bodies. They would only have to take them out anyway come game day.
Usually I am pretty laid back about this sort of thing. I allow the makeup (with moderation), I allow a shorter than average skirt every now and again, depending on the occasion. I allow certain types of jewellery, ear cuffs etc… but I do draw the line here.
My Dad was very much anti piercing anything! I remember when I came home at the age of 12 with my ears pierced for the first time, he stared at me and grumpily said “so are you going to get your nose done next?”
He wouldn’t have wanted to say this to Miss E, her eyes would would have lit up with delight!
I’m not sure what’s going to happen once Miss E turns 18, in fact I am dreading it. I am envisioning tattoos and piercings galore. By then she will also technically be an adult, and can therefore pay for it herself.
I suppose eventually I will have to let them make their own decisions regarding their respective appearances…but not yet.
Have you allowed your girls to get anything pierced or tattooed?
How do you feel about unusual piercings?
